You will need:

  • 3 medium zucchini
  • 1 small onion
  • Olive oil
  • Smoked paprika


  • Cut the zucchini and onion into cubes and arrange them on a baking tray.
  • Sprinkle some smoked paprika over the top (optional) and drizzle some olive oil as well.
  • Roast it in the oven for 30-45 minutes at 400 and then allow it to cool down.
  • Transfer everything to a food processor and blend until the mixture turns smooth.

2. Simple Pasta with Zucchini:

You will need:

  • 1-2 medium zucchini
  • 1 cup pasta of your choice
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Bell peppers and cheese (optional)


  • Boil the zucchini in a pot of water until tender.
  • In another pot, cook the pasta and drain off all the excess water.
  • Drizzle some olive oil over the pasta to keep it from sticking.
  • Chop or smash the tender zucchini and add it to the pasta.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper if needed.
  • Add diced bell peppers and cheese if your baby is over 8 months of age.

You will need:

  • 2 small zucchinis
  • 1 cup corn kernels
  • 1 cup baby peas


  • Boil all the three vegetables in a medium saucepan for around 5 minutes or until they turn tender and then drain off all the excess water, storing it in another container.
  • Blend all the vegetables together using a hand blender or in a food processor until a smooth paste is obtained.
  • Add some of the stored water if needed.

4. Simple Zucchini Soup:

You will need:

  • 1 medium potato
  • 1 medium zucchini
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 ½ cup vegetable stock
  • Olive oil


  • Sauté the onion and garlic in a small pan with olive oil until it turns tender.
  • Cut the potato into small cubes and add it to the pan and cook over very low heat for 15 minutes.
  • Now add cubed zucchini and cook for additional 5 minutes.
  • Now add the vegetable stock and allow it to come to a boil. Stir in the yogurt and you’re done.

5. Zucchini and Carrot Fritters:

You will need:

  • 1 medium carrot
  • 1 medium zucchini
  • 1 small onion
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1/3 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Olive oil


  • Wash all the vegetables well and grate the carrot and zucchini and set aside.
  • Chop the onion and then mix all the vegetables together in a bowl.
  • Add ricotta cheese, egg, flour and pepper and mix well.
  • Lightly grease a fry pan with some olive oil and add spoonfuls of this mixture on the pan and allow it to cook till golden brown.

Start with feeding her plain bland porridge of finger millet for one week. Once she habituates to the porridge, prepare and serve semi-solid porridge. If your little one faces any problems digesting it, stop feeding her porridge for a few days before resuming.

You Will Need:

  • One cup of water
  • Two teaspoons of ragi porridge powder
  • One teaspoon of ghee
  • A half cup of milk
  • A bit of grated jaggery

Preparing Porridge Powder:

  • Wash the ragi appropriately.
  • Remove the liquid and spread it on a clean cloth under sunlight to dry.
  • Once it dries, roast the powder over a medium flame until you smell an aroma of roasted finger millet.
  • Turn off the heat and place it on a dish. Allow it too cool.
  • Grind it finely in a grinding machine.
  • Keep the ground ragi powder in a dry, air-tight can.

Making Ragi Porridge:

  1. Place one teaspoon of ghee in a cooking pan and heat it.
  1. Once it’s hot, add two teaspoons of ragi porridge powder and sauté for about one minute.
  1. Add about one cup of water.
  1. Then add half cup milk.
  1. Stir the mixture continuously so that the flour mixes well with the milk.
  1. Make sure no lumps of powder remain in the mixture.
  1. Then add a bit of grated jaggery for taste and stir the mixture properly till it dissolves in the mixture.
  1. Turn off the heat when the mixture reaches an appropriate consistency.

A Word Of Caution:

Make sure you sterilize all the spoons and utensils before feeding your baby ragi porridge. Also, wash your hands thoroughly with soap before you feed the baby.
